New sports com­plex for schools

THE con­struc­tion of a glit­ter­ing £6.1 mil­lion school sports cen­tre and swim­ming pool has been com­pleted in Stam­ford.

Stam­ford En­dowed Schools - which runs Stam­ford School, Stam­ford High School and Stam­ford Ju­nior School - will open the new sports cen­tre to stu­dents and staff next month.

Sit­ting in the mid­dle of the Stam­ford School pitches, it has been part­funded by a £2.5 mil­lion Bar­clays loan and fea­tures a 25-me­tre in­door swim­ming pool, gym­na­sium, fit­ness suite, wet and dry chang­ing rooms, teach­ing rooms and a hospi­tal­ity area as well as a spec­ta­tor ter­race fac­ing south and cov­ered by an over­hang­ing roof.

Stephen Roberts, prin­ci­pal of Stam­ford En­dowed Schools, said: “At the Stam­ford En­dowed Schools we are com­mit­ted to con­tin­u­ally im­prov­ing our aca­demic and ex­tra-cur­ric­u­lar pro­vi­sion, and this fa­cil­ity will greatly en­hance the qual­ity of sport at the three schools.

“Our schools have seen a num­ber of high pro­file de­vel­op­ments over the last few years and be­yond the sports com­plex we will be turn­ing our at­ten­tion to a new per­form­ing arts cen­tre.”
