New sports complex for schools
THE construction of a glittering £6.1 million school sports centre and swimming pool has been completed in Stamford.
Stamford Endowed Schools - which runs Stamford School, Stamford High School and Stamford Junior School - will open the new sports centre to students and staff next month.
Sitting in the middle of the Stamford School pitches, it has been partfunded by a £2.5 million Barclays loan and features a 25-metre indoor swimming pool, gymnasium, fitness suite, wet and dry changing rooms, teaching rooms and a hospitality area as well as a spectator terrace facing south and covered by an overhanging roof.
Stephen Roberts, principal of Stamford Endowed Schools, said: “At the Stamford Endowed Schools we are committed to continually improving our academic and extra-curricular provision, and this facility will greatly enhance the quality of sport at the three schools.
“Our schools have seen a number of high profile developments over the last few years and beyond the sports complex we will be turning our attention to a new performing arts centre.”
