Town centre revamp gets under way
THE start of multi-million pound town centre redevelopment works has been welcomed by the leader of a council.
The venture is a £2.14 million project that will secure a number of improvements in Bourne.
The plans include the complete refurbishment of Wherry’s Mill and building a new adjoining complex featuring ground floor retail and commercial units, and 16 first and second floor apartments
South Kesteven District Council’s leader, Cllr Linda Neal said she was thrilled to see work had started on the project.
She said: “I am pleased that work has started on the core area project. I am looking forward to seeing how the work progresses over the coming months and I can’t wait to see what it looks like when the work is finished.”
The scheme fits in with the surrounding area and will be the first step in a much wider regeneration scheme which will also include the creation of an area of serviced land suitable for future development.
Consultation work was done on the project in June 2010 including plans for a re-development that would enhance the area whilst still being in keeping with the history of the town.
The building works are expected to run until spring 2013.
