Delays might help change plans
to redevelop the Werrington Centre have been put on the back burner for at least a year.
Shopping giant Tesco has shelved plans to build a new superstore replacing the existing one and a major revamp of the shopping area for at least another year, with a statement saying the funds were not available to start the scheme.
It’s a sign of just how tough times are when even Tesco is starting to pull back on spending plans.
The Werrington Centre desperately needs the revamp and residents have been waiting long enough.
Perhaps the only silver lining to the delay might be the opportunity to have more time to consider the development detail, in particular whether provision for the pub and Post Office could be made.
