THE newly elected chairman of Lincolnshire County Council has pledged to champion county farming during the next year.
At the annual meeting of the council, Councillor Robert Palmer was elected as its 27th chairman.
And following his election, Cllr Palmer said he will be using his position to highlight the county’s outstanding farming industry.
He said: “I am very proud to have been elected as chairman and look forward to serving as an ambassador for Lincolnshire.
“My aim this year is to promote farming and the ex- cellent food we all know and love.
“During my tour of duty, I would like to raise the profile of Lincolnshire and its agricultural background and let everyone know why we were voted Britain’s favourite food spot.”
During the year, Cllr Palmer will be raising money for organisations including the Lincolnshire Rural Support Network and a memorial for the fallen of The 10th Regiment of Foot.
Cllr Palmer himself became a poultry farmer following his retirement after a career spanning 30 years in the Army.
