THE newly elected chair­man of Lin­colnshire County Coun­cil has pledged to cham­pion county farm­ing dur­ing the next year.

At the an­nual meet­ing of the coun­cil, Coun­cil­lor Robert Palmer was elected as its 27th chair­man.

And fol­low­ing his elec­tion, Cllr Palmer said he will be us­ing his po­si­tion to high­light the county’s out­stand­ing farm­ing in­dus­try.

He said: “I am very proud to have been elected as chair­man and look for­ward to serv­ing as an am­bas­sador for Lin­colnshire.

“My aim this year is to pro­mote farm­ing and the ex- cel­lent food we all know and love.

“Dur­ing my tour of duty, I would like to raise the pro­file of Lin­colnshire and its agri­cul­tural back­ground and let ev­ery­one know why we were voted Bri­tain’s favourite food spot.”

Dur­ing the year, Cllr Palmer will be rais­ing money for or­gan­i­sa­tions in­clud­ing the Lin­colnshire Ru­ral Sup­port Net­work and a me­mo­rial for the fallen of The 10th Reg­i­ment of Foot.

Cllr Palmer him­self be­came a poul­try farmer fol­low­ing his re­tire­ment af­ter a ca­reer span­ning 30 years in the Army.
