The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Neighbourhood News -

COATES boss Gary Munns has hailed club talisman Mark Newton.

The powerful striker has claimed the Premier Division golden boot award after topping the scoring charts with 22 league goals.

He pipped Kings Cliffe striker Gary Gibbs and Pinchbeck player-boss Ian Dunn to top billing. They both scored 21 times.

Now manager Munns is busy trying to persuade Newton to carry on playing next season.

He said: “Being top scorer in the division is a terrific achievement for Mark and without him we would have really struggled.

“He troubles defenders with his size and he is no slouch either. He does what he does very well.

“Mark has had a few injury problems as well but hopefully I can convince him to play again next season.”

Newton could even afford to see a penalty saved during Coates’ seasonending 5-0 defeat at Moulton Harrox ontuesday.
