Several local waters available to let

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Etbusiness Daily -

IF you are a small club or indeed a local club looking to add waters to your portfolio then I have some good news for you.

The Environment Agency have advertised 14 lots of water to let and several are close to Peterborough including the famous River Welland which includes the Spalding rights and also thetallington sections.

Several years ago it was not uncommon to see hundreds of anglers lining the banks each weekend but the huge weed problem coinciding with the demise of club bookings from the likes of Coventry, Leicester andyorkshire saw the river quickly drop in popularity.

Add to all that the rise of commercial waters and you can soon deduce that there is not a lot of profit in controlling this once prestigious fishery, unless of course you can get it for a very favourable rate.

Several clubs have tried to take it on over the years, but in the main have struggled to attract anglers.

Along with the Welland, Moretons Leam, The Folly and the Greatford Cut are also up for tender. The closing date is May 31 and tenders need to go into Gresty Land Agency on 01780 753518.
