No extra cash as leader’s job grows
THE reduction of one full cabinet member will not result in a cut in the amount spent on allowances for cabinet members.
Peterborough City Council leader Councillor Marco Cereste has taken on Samantha Dalton’s environment capital portfolio and as such will not be entitled to any extra Special Responsibility Allowance (SRA) on top of his leader’s allowance, as councillors are limited to one SRA.
However, the appointment of Cllr Nigel North and Cllr Gavin Elsey as cabinet advisers will see the pair of them split the £14,331.90 allowance previously claimed by Sam Dalton.
Cllr North’s promotion to cabinet adviser meanwhile has meant an end to his tenure as the chairman of the council’s Planning and Environmental Protection Committee.
He has been replaced by Fletton and Woodston Tory councillor Lucia Serluca, with Orton Longueville Conservative Graham Casey her deputy.
Cllr Serluca will now receive an SRA on top of her £7,962.08 basic allowance, bringing her total remuneration to just over £15,000.
There will however be one fewer committee chairman, after the Sustainable Growth and the Environment Capital Committees were merged because Cllr Cereste now holds both portfolios.
This joint committee will be chaired by Cllr Marion Todd.
