City club win 12 British titles
CITY fighters were well to the fore at the BCKA National Championships at Lodge Park in Corby at the weekend.
The Peterborough BCKA club came away with an impressive 12 British titles, six second places and three third places.
No wonder chief instructor Andy Whitwell couldn’t stop smiling.
“I was walking around with a smile on my face all day,” he said. “It was a superb display by the Peterborough fighters who were competing against many European and world champions and I was so proud of all of them. Results like that make all the hard work seem worthwhile. Twelve British champions from my club is an amazing result.
“While they all did me proud I was particularly impressed with Charlotte Cameron in the continuous section and Edward Paddock. I predict they will go on to become big players on the world stage in time.”
Former Peterborough BCKA member Jack Bristowe from Crowland also returned with a British title. Bristowe, last year’s Evening Under 4ft 6in advanced Points 2nd - Harley Hilliam. Under 65kg mens black belt Points 2nd - Courtney Brown. Under 70kg mens black belt Points 2nd - Grant Brown. Over 80kg mens black belt Points 2nd - Aaron Young. Veteran (over 40 years) Points 2nd - Andy Whitwell. Under 30kg boys Continuous 2nd - Harley Hilliam; Third places Under 4ft 6in advanced Points 3rd - Jazmyn Evans. Under 70kg mens black belt Points 3rd - Zac Culpin. Over 80kg mens black belt Points 3rd - Ritchie Walton.
PETERBOROUGH BCKA hold sessions at Bushfields Sports Centre, Stanground College, Whittlesey, Ramsey and Stamford.
Andy Whitwell is the senior executive instructor in Cambridgeshire and South Lincolnshire, a 5th Dan Black Belt in BCKA Kickboxing, 4th Degree Black sash in BCKA Five Animals Kung Fu and a 3rd Degree Black sash in Lau gar Kung Fu.
