Elect officers

RE: Letter: Change the politics, not the electorate, May 24.

Shame we can’t vote in or out the senior executives of the council – or put them on performance-related pay – the politicians don’t seem to have any real control over the executive, they make practically no difference to the way things are run, are paid a fraction of the senior execs’ salaries and are largely impotent and irrelevant. Let’s have full-time, elected senior officers and stop the pretence that “cabinet portfolio holders” have any real power to do anything – just look at the Children’s Services fiasco!
