Fire chiefs new call to test smoke alarms

Res­i­dents are be­ing urged to test their fire alarms to en­sure their house is safe at the be­gin­ning of 2013.

Cam­bridgeshire Fire and Res­cue Ser­vice made the plea for res­i­dents to en­sure the smoke alarms are in full work­ing or­der as part of their new year res­o­lu­tions.

Andy Tucker, risk man­ager at Cam­bridgeshire Fire and Res­cue, said: “At this time of year, many will be­thinkingofwhatth­ey­can do - big or small - to make a fresh start and im­prove their lives, homes and well­be­ing. A smoke alarm can of­fer vi­tal pro­tec­tion for youandy­ourlove­dones, but most peo­ple sim­ply fit and for­get – they don’t knowif it might be coming to the end of its life­span.”

Res­i­dentsshouldtest­the bat­tery life of alarms reg­u­larly, an­den­sure­atlea­s­t­one alarm is fit­ted on each level of their home, es­pe­cially where there are elec­tri­cal ap­pli­ances.
