Man dies in hospi­tal two days af­ter at­tack

Ayoung man died in hospi­tal on Christ­mas Day fol­low­ing an in­ci­dent at a house in Spald­ing in which he sus­tained a head in­jury. Po­lice and am­bu­lance medics were called out to the prop­erty in Winsover Road at about 1.15pm on De­cem­ber 23.

The­vic­tim, whowas­named as Martins Lip­sis, a 21- year- old Lat­vian man, wastreated at the scenebe­fore­be­ing­tak­en­byam­bu­lance to Pil­grim Hospi­tal, in Bos­ton.

Five men aged 19, 20, 22, 26 and 28 plus a woman aged 28, all of whom­live­lo­cally, were­ar­rested at thesce­neon­sus­pi­cion of as­sault oc­ca­sion­ing griev­ous bod­ily harm.

They were sub­se­quently in­ter­viewed by of­fi­cers and later re­leased on­po­lice­bail to re­turn to Spald­ing Po­lice Sta­tion on Jan­uary 28.

Mr Lip­sis, of Broad Street, Spald­ing, died in the Pil­grim Hospi­tal in Bos­ton on Christ­mas day.

Last week a post mortem was car­ried out on Mr Lip­sis by a Home Of­fice pathol­o­gist.

It re­vealed that Mr Lip­sis had died as a re­sult of a head in­jury and his death is be­ing treated by po­lice as sus­pi­cious.

Awit­ness, liv­ing close to the in­ci­dent, said: “I sawt­wopo­lice vans, three cars and about six to eight po­lice of­fi­cers out­side theend­house­n­earMas­quer­ade bri­dal shop on Sun­day at about 1.45pm.

“Then on Mon­day morn­ing at 8am there was still one po­lice car there and two offic- ers guard­ing the side gate en­trance.”
