Wife struggled to escape
Andrew Jackson. prosecuting, told the court Mrs Carroll died on the morning of May 24. He said: “It was shortly after she got out of bed, and was in the sitting room in a nightie and dressing gown. “Wesay she was strangled by this defendant. “Only he knows why he did that dreadful thing. Thus far he has given no explanation for it.” Mr Jackson said Mrs Carroll had injuries to her neck which indicated she had been strangled, and other injuries, including a torn muscle on her right shoulder, which indicated she had tried to struggle. She was found lying on the sofa by police.
