Wife strug­gled to es­cape

An­drew Jack­son. pros­e­cut­ing, told the court Mrs Car­roll died on the morn­ing of May 24. He said: “It was shortly af­ter she got out of bed, and was in the sit­ting room in a nightie and dress­ing gown. “We­say she was stran­gled by this de­fen­dant. “Only he knows why he did that dread­ful thing. Thus far he has given no ex­pla­na­tion for it.” Mr Jack­son said Mrs Car­roll had in­juries to her neck which in­di­cated she had been stran­gled, and other in­juries, in­clud­ing a torn mus­cle on her right shoul­der, which in­di­cated she had tried to strug­gle. She was found ly­ing on the sofa by po­lice.
