HOCKEY: Peterborough Town reached the semi- finals of the East Championships by beating Cambridge City 2- 1 with goals by John Sergeant and Jim Wheeler and Norfolk Wanderers 1- 0 with Rod Edward on target. Defender John Lake played a starring role in both games deapite losing two front teeth in the opening minute of the first match. POSH: Chris Turner and John Cozens were on target in a 2- 2 draw at home to Chester City. FOOTBALL: Yaxley went top of Division One in the Peterborough League by beating Whittlesey 5- 2 through goals byFred Richardson ( 2), Roger Terrell, Tony Burgess and Tony Hall. FOOTBALL: A Stuart Hodson penalty gave Newark Rovers a 1- 0 win over Bourne in a Peterborough Sunday League Premier Division top- of- the- table clash. RUGBY: Borough fourths were the club’s only winners on a disappointing Saturday when the firsts lost 10- 0 at home to Old Northamptonians. Thefourths beat Ely seconds10- 4 with Lindsey Horseman kicking two penalties and ChasGoy collecting a Trevor Noyes up- and- under to score a try. NON- LEAGUE: Bourne won the big UCL local derby against Stamford3- 1 with Graham Copland ( 2) and Colin Cottam scoring their goals.
