Crowds, cricket, booze and bid­ding at BGL Sports Bash

Af­ter a wash-out last year, it was ideal con­di­tions for the BGL Sport Bash which was head­lined by the Dean Headley XI ver­sus a team of ‘lo­cal leg­ends’. For­mer Eng­land in­ter­na­tion­als Si­mon Jones, Geraint Jones and Phil DeFre­itas were among the top for­mer pros to turn out on the day, fol­low­ing on from the un­der­10s’ com­pe­ti­tion the Hum­berts Cup which was won by Bar­nack Bats. The day was at­tended by more than 1,000 peo­ple and in­cluded mu­sic from cover band Chil­dren of the Revo­lu­tion, street per­form­ers, an auc­tion and lots of lo­cal food and drink out­lets. For­mer Eng­land crick­eter and Stam­ford En­dowed School’s head of cricket Dean Headley or­gan­ises the event ev­ery year, which raises funds for a num­ber of lo­cal char­i­ties in­clud­ing the Matt Hamp­son Foun­da­tion.
