Plan­ning per­mis­sion for a new gas-fired back-up power plant at Peter­bor­ough power sta­tion has been granted.

The new plant in Fen­gate would be ca­pa­ble of pro­duc­ing ap­prox­i­mately 50MW, enough to meet the needs of around 50,000 homes, and would op­er­ate mainly dur­ing pe­ri­ods of high de­mand.

Dave Theak­stone, Cen­trica’s gen­er­a­tion man­ager in Peter­bor­ough, said: “We’re very pleased to have been granted plan­ning per­mis­sion byPeter­bor­oughCi­tyCoun­cil for anew­back-up­pow­er­fa­cil­ity and ac­cess road on land at our ex­ist­ing site.

“Wewil­l­now­work­to­fi­nalise thede­tailed­plan­swith­our con­tract part­ners and hope to be in a po­si­tion to make a fi­nal in­vest­ment de­ci­sion on the project in early 2017.”
