Man in­jured while trapped by hearse

Fire crews re­sponded to an un­usual call in Chat­teris fol­low­ing re­ports of a man trappe­dun­dera­glass­hearse car­riage.

Fire­fight­ers at­tended Round House Drove at 11.30am on Thurs­day, Au­gust 4, and used airbags and me­chan­i­cal equip­ment to free the man. He had be­come pinned by the legs while un­load­ing the horse drawn­hearse from the back of an LDV van.

The East of Eng­land Am- bu­lance Ser­vice sent a rapid re­spon­seve­hi­cle, am­bu­lance of­fi­cer, am­bu­lance­crew, and the Mag­pas air am­bu­lance.

At the scene the man, be­lieved to be in his 40s, was treated for a se­ri­ous leg in­jury and he was air­lifted to Ad­den­brooke’s Hos­pi­tal.

Cam­bridgeshire Fire and Res­cue Sta­tion Com­man­derAdySlack­said:“The­crews were faced with a dif­fi­cult task with a horse draw car­riage trap­ping anadult within an LDV box lorry.”
