It’s look­ing up on the match front on the River Nene

At last it looks as if Peter­bor­ough & Dis­trict AA are get­ting club matches up and run­ning again on their wa­ters.

It’s been a very long time com­ing but al­ready a small fix­ture list has been pro­duced and af­ter a suc­cess­ful match at Or­ton up­stream on Sun­day hopes are high that over the next few months an­glers can be per­suaded back to club matches on their wa­ters.

It will not beeasy but there is a need for river matches as you can see from other clubs right across the coun­try. In a cou­ple of weeks time the club host a Riverfest event at Or­ton which has all but sold out, that’s surely proof if ever it was needed.

Sun­day’s club match was fished at Or ton Up­stream and saw most fish­ing en­joy some rea­son­able sport given the dif­fi­cult con­di­tions.

Top rod was Dave Norville drawn on peg one. He fished hempseed in the clear con­di­tions and caught well on a long pole line to fin­ish with 10lb 1oz.

Run­ner- up was Nigel Briggs, who had a mixed bag of fish take non bronze mag­got for 4lb 8oz, then came Mike Smith with perch and an eel weigh­ing in 4lb.


The Tues­day club also fished the River Nene at Or­ton last week, with Mel Sag­gers top­ping the field with a net of perch and roach for 8lb.

Mike Smith came sec­ond on 6lb 14oz, fol­lowed by Fred Tame with 6lb 7oz.


Ram­sey AS fished the Adult Pairs match at the week­end at Ex­hi­bi­tion Bridge.

In­di­vid­ual win­ner was Paul Kilby, who caught a good net of skim­mers on the pole fish­ing red mag­got over ground bait to put 10lb 10oz to the scales.

Vern Ed­g­ley came in sec­ond. He caught a small tench and added a few small fish to fin­ish with 4lb 8oz, then came Simon Wagstaff with 4lb 2oz.

The pairs event went to the top two in­di­vid­ual an­glers Kilby and Ed­g­ley.


Tydd Gote an­glers have been very busy of late, fish­ing their club wa­ters three times over the past week.

John Tay­lor started the ball rolling in the Wed­nes­day open match fished on the North Level Drain.

He caught a net of skim­mers, roach and bream for a match-win­ning 16lb 4oz.

Run­ner-up was Colin Bur­ton with 8lb 12oz, fol­lowed by Pete Emery on 8lb 8oz.

Thurs­day’s match on Black Dyke saw Andy Greenwood out in front with a mod­est 5lb 5oz of roach. Then it was Dave Wil­liams with 3 lb 5 oz and Rob Wright on 2lb 12oz.

It was back on the Main Drain for Sun­day’s match which saw top rod Paul Baw­den putting a fine mixed bag of skim­mers and roach to the scales along with three de­cent bream to fin­ish with 15lb 1oz.

Pete Emery came in sec­ond with 10lb 2oz, then it was Andy Greenwood with 8lb 6oz.


JVAC had a big turnout on the Yew Lake on the De­coy com­plex on Sun­day which saw Ernie Low­bridge top the field with 111lb 2oz.

He caught on caster and worm from peg 16.

In sec­ond place was Kev Wadge, who caught some big carp from the mar­gins for 108lb, fol­lowed by Barrie Ni­cholls in third place on 98lb 2oz.

Paul Baw­den won Sun­day’s Tydd Gote AC match.

Ernie Low­bridge won the JVAC match.

Dave Norville won the Peter­bor­ough DAA match.
