Phan­toms sledgers cel­e­brate an­other Bri­tish League win

The Peter­bor­ougb Phan­toms sledge hockey team are cel­e­brat­ing a fourth con­sec­u­tive Bri­tish League ti­tle tri­umph.

Af­ter win­ning their fi­nal away match of the sea­son at Kingston Kestrels in Hull, the city side took on Cardiff Huskies at Planet Ice in a ti­tle de­cider.

And, spurred on by a large crowd, the Phan­toms ran out hand­some 5-1 win­ners to re­tain the Red­des League Cup.

Goals were scored by Scotty Turner with an as­sist from Kieran O’Meara and Gary Farmer, who scored four goals, as­sisted by Kieran O’Meara and Matt Cole­man. Man-ofthe-match for Phan­toms was net­min­der Rob Gaze.

Cap­tain Cole­man said: “It’s an amaz­ing feel­ing to win the game, but more im­por­tantly to win the Red d es League Cup again for the fourth time.

“I knew we had as­sem­bled one of the best squads ever for this club, but I also knew all the other clubs had im­proved, and they pushed us right to the very last game, soit’s a credit to ev­ery­one.

“I want to thank ev­ery­one for their sup­port-our spon­sors Ir­win Mitchell and In­spire Peter­bor­ough, Planet Ice and their staff as well as ev­ery­one who helps us be­hind the scenes. This cup is ded­i­cated to them.”

Sledge hockey is a Par­a­lympic sport and is set to fea­ture in the 2017 In­vic­tus Games. Dis­abled and able- bod­ied play­ers can en­joy the sport to­gether, with the only ex­cep­tions be­ing the Paralympics and In­vic­tus Games.
