Tougher stance needed on illegal traveller camps

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Your Views -

I wrote last week aboutthe deep frustration and anger residents feel when illegal encampments move on and leave mess and damage. Not all travellers do this as we have said before. Travellers should be able to set up camp temporarily and not be regarded with suspicion and assumptions that damage will be done... but the few groups who do such terrible damage as we have seen in Stanground create that concern. For the sake of fuming and despairing residents and for the sake of members of the travelling community who do clear their sites, the authorities must take a tougher stance and bring those who wreak such damage to justice because all communities are suffering as a result of their actions.
