New method to mark schools
From this year all schools and academies will not be judged on the proportion of pupils gaining C grades or higher in five GCSE subjects including English and maths. Instead, they will be measured on how much progress their students make from their achievement at Key Stage 2 in Year 6 to when they complete their exams at the end of Year 11. This is known as Progress 8 and is based on students’ progress measured across eight subjects. It is a comparison of their progress against the progress of all other students nationally. As the results of all students need to be analysed to calculate this measure the headline figure will not be available until late September.
