MAC cos­met­ics to open in city

Cos­met­ics spe­cial­ist MAC has con­firmed ex­cit­ing plans to open a store in Peter­bor­ough’s Queens­gate shop­ping cen­tre. The high-end re­tailer will oc­cupy the for­mer Sue Ry­der pop­up­shop­unit­clos­e­toJohn Lewis in the Lower Mall.

It is thought that 10 jobs will be cre­ated by MAC’s ar­rival in the city.

A Queens­gate spokesman said: “This is quite a coup for us.

“MAC­does­no­tusu­al­ly­take stand alone stores.

“It is a very pop­u­lar brand andwea­re­ex­pect­ingthe­store to be very busy.”

De­tails have not yet been re­leased about when MAC will open.

MAC, which stands for Make-up Art Cos­met­ics and was founded 32 years ago, is part of the New York-based Es­tee Lauder Group of Com­pa­nies

It is one­of­thetopthree­glo- bal make-up brands and has about 500 stores world­wide.

News of MAC’s im­mi­nent ar­rival in Peter­bor­ough­hasal­ready se­cureda­nen­thu­si­as­tic re­sponse from many peo­ple.

But the Queens­gate spokesman said that MAC was not the only re­tailer set to join the shop­ping cen­tre in the near fu­ture.

Agree­ments have been reached with re­tail­ers for the va­cant H&M store (the fash­ion re­tailer moved re­cently to the empty Waitrose store on the first floor) and the for­mer BHS store.

The Queens­gate spokesman­saida­sur­vey­of­cen­treusers re­vealed that MACandthe fash­ion chainZarawere­topof shop­pers’ list of re­tail­ers they hoped to see in the cen­tre.
