Stamford carry the local flag into round two
Stamford AFC are the only local survivors in the FA Cup.
The Daniels claimed a superb4-1 first qualifying replay win over higher-level St Neots at the Zee co Stadium on Tuesday night.
The teams had drawn 1-1 at St Neots at the weekend.
Daniels boss Grahan Drury said: “We dominated a team from a higher league for a game and a half.
“The effort and the desire couldn’t be faulted and some of our football was of a good quality.”
Jevani Brown, who also scored in the first game, Sam Mulready, Tom Batchelor and Jordan Smith scored Stamford’s goals in the replay.
They now travel to fellow Evo Stik Division One South side Gresley in the second qualifying round on September 17.
Three more wins and Stamford will be in the first round proper.
Gresley won 6-2 at Deeping Rangers in the first qualifying round on Saturday and there were also defeats for local teams Peterborough Sports, Ho lb each United and Spalding United at the hands of higher level opponents.
Avelino Vieira shot Sports into the lead against Stourbridge, but the classy visitors ran out 3-1 winners, whileHolbeach went down to a late free kick at Dereham. Jake Clitheroe scored the Tigers’ goal.
Spalding lost 3-2 at Mickleover Sports with Brad Wells and Nathan Stain field the men on target.
“We’re disappointed as we didn’t do ourselves justice,” Spalding boss Dave Frecklington admitted.
“We conceded a couple of bad goals at bad times in the game.”
Tom Batchelor was among the scorers for Stamford AFC against St Neots.
