A bad way to end the season

Panthers rider Anders Thomsen has undergone surgery after breaking both wrists in a seasonending smash.

The Danish racer was involved in a spectacular spill in the final round of the Speedway Euro Championship (SEC) at Polish venue Rybnik last Saturday night.

Thomsen clipped the machine of Czech rider Vaclav Milik in his opening ride and was immediately taken to hospital where the full extent of his injuries was discovered. He also suffered a sprained ankle and concussion.

Thomsen, who joined Panthers for a late-season spell, was then transferred back to his native Denmark where he was due to be operated on yesterday (Wednesday).

“It was a bad crash and not a nice way for a rider to see his season end,” said Panthers team boss Carl Johnson. “Anders did well for us again after being brought into the team. Just as in 2015, he showed he can score a lot of points in the Premier League.”

Thomsen finished 14th in the final standing sat the end of his debut SEC campaign.
