BomB squAD Busy in City

In De­cem­ber, a large part of Peter­bor­ough city cen­tre was evac­u­ated af­ter a sus­pi­cious pack­age was found near the city mar­ket on De­cem­ber 13. A mem­ber of the pub­lic heard a beep­ing noise com­ing from a bin near the multi-storey car park. The city mar­ket was then evac­u­ated, with a mes­sage de­liv­ered over the tan­noy for staff to leave. A cor­don was then put up around the mar­ket. This was grad­u­ally ex­tended into a cor­don 100m away from where the de­vice was found, mean­ing peo­ple at Tesco and Wilko were also evac­u­ated. The bomb squad ar­rived at 11.15am and soon af­ter­wards there was a con­trolled ex­plo­sion, with by­s­tanders re­port­ing hear­ing a bang.
