The decision of Clarkes to relocate from the heart of Peterborough to Folksworth is a blow to the city’s burgeoning foodie scene. Ironically, on the same page that PT food writer Brad Barnes revealed the move, chef Lee Clarke who founded the restaurant before branching out and opening Prevost said in his column: “It feels to me we are just a few more pubs and independent restaurants away from becoming a seriously great attraction for food lovers nationally.’’ The key phrase is “independent restaurants.’’ The influx of the mid-market chains has widened the city’s culinary offer but the high end is still unrepresented. And before I’m accused of being a foodie snob you’ll find me in KFC more often than Prevost (birthdays and anniversaries excepted).
