Staff at Peter­bor­ough based hol­i­day­giantThomasCook­ex­pe­ri­enced their busiest day of the year on Satur­day.

Tra­di­tion­ally, the first week­end af­ter the fes­tive and New Year cel­e­bra­tions is al­ways the busiest time of the year as peo­ple turn their thoughts to the sum­mer.

Thomas Cook em­ploys 1,115 peo­ple at its new of­fices at West­point, in Lynch Wood.

Chris Mot­ter­shead, man­ag­ing di­rec­tor of Thomas Cook UK & Ire­land, said: “The Christ­mas dec­o­ra­tions have come down, we’re all back at work or school and it’s cold and gloomy, so peo­ple want some­thing to look for­ward to dur­ing the year.

Mr Mot­ter­shead said: “Over the week­end we took more than dou­ble the book­ings of a nor­mal week­end.”

The top five searched for sum­mer2017des­ti­na­tions on www.thomas­cook.com since Christ­masDa­yareGreece, Ca­naries, Balearics, Spain and Mex­ico.
