RAiders get AwAy with £20,000 CAsh
Burglars got away with thousands of pounds after breaking into a Peterborough post office under cover of darkness. The raid happened at the Post OfficeinOakleighDrivein Orton Longueville in the early hours of Monday.
The cash was stolen from the ATM safe located in the store - andtheraidersleftacar outside the shop after making their getaway, with about £20,000 of cash.
The offenders used what policedescribedas‘heatbased equipment’ to break into the safe to take the contents.
The car, a grey Mitsubishi Pajero - a 4x4 vehicle - had been stolen before the burglary, and officers are trying to find out more about the vehicle’s movementsinthetime leading up to the raid.
The car’s engine had been left running by the crooks when they fled the scene.
Officers were called at about12.45am onMondayfollowing reports the shop had been broken into.
The shop was closed for a short while on Monday after the raid while scene of crime officers looked for evidence and clues in an attempt to bring the culprits to justice.
The cash machine locat- ed outside the shop was also left out of order following the theft.
DC Louise Mann from the Peterborough serious crime team who are investigating, said anyone who saw the stolen car in the area in the run uptothebreak-in should contact police.
She said: “We are keen to speaktoanyonewhomayhave witnessed the break-in or saw the Mitsubishi Pajero in the lead up to the incident.”
Anyone with information aboutthebreak-in, orwhosaw the car in the area shortly before the break-in, is asked to call Cambridgeshire police on101, orindependentcharity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
