RAiders get AwAy with £20,000 CAsh

Bur­glars got away with thou­sands of pounds af­ter break­ing into a Peterborough post of­fice un­der cover of dark­ness. The raid hap­pened at the Post Of­fi­ceinOak­leighDrivein Or­ton Longueville in the early hours of Mon­day.

The cash was stolen from the ATM safe lo­cated in the store - andtheraider­slef­t­acar out­side the shop af­ter mak­ing their get­away, with about £20,000 of cash.

The of­fend­ers used what po­licedescribedas‘heat­based equip­ment’ to break into the safe to take the con­tents.

The car, a grey Mit­subishi Pa­jero - a 4x4 ve­hi­cle - had been stolen be­fore the bur­glary, and of­fi­cers are try­ing to find out more about the ve­hi­cle’s move­mentsinthetime lead­ing up to the raid.

The car’s en­gine had been left run­ning by the crooks when they fled the scene.

Of­fi­cers were called at about12.45am onMon­day­fol­low­ing re­ports the shop had been bro­ken into.

The shop was closed for a short while on Mon­day af­ter the raid while scene of crime of­fi­cers looked for ev­i­dence and clues in an at­tempt to bring the cul­prits to jus­tice.

The cash ma­chine lo­cat- ed out­side the shop was also left out of or­der fol­low­ing the theft.

DC Louise Mann from the Peterborough se­ri­ous crime team who are in­ves­ti­gat­ing, said any­one who saw the stolen car in the area in the run up­tothe­break-in should con­tact po­lice.

She said: “We are keen to speak­toany­onewhomay­have wit­nessed the break-in or saw the Mit­subishi Pa­jero in the lead up to the in­ci­dent.”
