Hardly zero tolerance

-

Cllr leader John Holdich alludes to last week’s PT front page in his column this week. He says our story showing a tiny number of cyclists were stopped in the clampdown in Bridge Street and highlighting the many ignoring the riding ban, was not positive. Cllr Holdich tells us to give it time. Fair enough, but it wasn’t the PT that set the bar on this... it was Cllr Holdich who pushed for a ‘zero tolerance’ approach, and who told the PT in August last year that all cyclists who break the rules should be fined. We agree. But we are duty bound to highlight a very different approach - with tiny numbers fined and many more getting away with ignoring the ban. At least Cllr Holdich has got things moving... let’s hope the cyclists ignoring the ban get the message soon. >Mark Edwards >@PT Mark Edwards
