Peterborough’s new Local Plan
The first draft of Peterborough’s new Local Plan was revealed in October 2016.
The plan set out the need for 27,625 new homes and 22,024 new jobs to be created in the city up until 2036.
The most eye-catching development were the 2,500 planned properties north of Castor and Ailsworth. The proposals also included a new country park between Castor and Ailsworth and it was suggested the new settlement (called the Great Kyne) may also include university facilities. However, opposition quickly formed against the proposals, including from North West Cambridgeshire MP Shailesh Vara who said the development would be “completely out of keeping with the local area and will set a dangerous precedent for further development in the open countryside.”
Other proposals in the draft plan include 250 homes in the village of Eye.
