Candidates have been chosen for a Peterborough City Council by-election at Eye, Thorney and Newborough seat on September 7 following the resignation of David Sanders.

Dad-of-five Michael Alexander (Green Party) is an engineer who has lived in Thorney for 14 years. He is pledging to campaign hard for improved public transport and protection of the city’s green spaces.

Dr DeFeo (Labour) lives between Eye and Thorney and was head of campaign communications for the Peterborough Labour Party during June’s General Election.

He said the council’s plans to expand Eye are unacceptable to many and that more ward cleaning is needed. Student Callum Robertson (Liberal Democrat)said he will campaign to develop the plan for the University for Peterborough and help local schools overcome their funding problems.
