Old boys among the biggest threats to Posh

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - THE MEN TO WATCH -

Could a couple of Posh old boys stand between their old club and promotion?

The traditional survey among journalists covering League One clubs included a question about the likely star performers in 2017-18.

Predictably Walsall nominated midfield wizard Erhun Oztumer after his career-best 15 goals for the Saddlers last season.

More surprisingly Rotherham put forward striker David Ball, amanwithamodestscoring record throughout his career, and a summer transfer recruit from Fleetwood.

Our man at the Peterborough Telegraph tipped Ricky Miller to be the club’s star performer.

Nominations: AFC Wimbledon - Dean Parrett; Blackburn-BradleyDack;Blackpool - Callum Cook; Bradford City - Jake Reeves; Bristol Rovers - Billy Bodin; Bury - Jermaine Beckford; Charlton - Ricky Holmes; Doncaster Liam Mandeville; Fleetwood - Conor McAleny; Gillingham - Lee Martin; MK Dons - Gboly Ariyibi; Northampton - Matt Crooks; Oldham - Courtney Duffus; Oxford Marvin Johnson; Posh: Ricky Miller; Plymouth - Graham Carey; Portsmouth - Conor Chaplin; Rochdale - Jordan Williams; Rotherham - David Ball; Scunthorpe - Hakeeb Adelakun; Shrewsbury - Jon Nolan; Southend - Ryan Leonard; Walsall - Erhun Oztumer; Wigan - Nick Powell.

Not one of the 24 journalists quizzed tipped Posh to go up and no-one predicted they would go down!

Eighteen of the 24 tipped Wigan to be promoted and 18 also tipped Shrewsbury to be relegated.

Some fascinating facts emerged about some of Posh’s League One rivals including one claim that MK Dons’ club shop is the only in the country to stock 70in replica shirts.

Other facts from League One clubs:

*Blackpool are celebrating their 130th birthday in 2018.

*Bradford City and Spurs were the only two sides in the top four divisions not to lose a league game at home last season.

*Nathan Pond is a Guiness World Record holder for appearing for Fleetwood in seven different divisions.

*Oldham will be competing in League One for the 21st successive season.

* Plymouth will travel 12,128 miles for away games this season. That’s 200 miles futher than the distance between Plymouth and New Zealand!
