IF the family in this creepy house tale had watched the recently re-mastered version of The Amityville Horror they could have saved themselves from walking into a nightmare. The basic rule being, if you’re in a horror film you should never, ever, begin a new life in a house that seems too good to be true. So how come it’s been vacant for so long and all the locals pass it on the other side of the street? These are the kind of questions that would avoid buyer’s remorse. But, of course, John Alexander (Michael Vartan - pictured) doesn’t ask too many questions, or take a peek in the attic crawlspace before moving into a des-res in a neat suburban area with new bride Melanie (Nadine Velazquez) and daughter Hannah (Erin Moriarty). It’s young Hannah who first has a feeling all’s not well when rooting through boxes of belongings left in the garage by the previous tenants, who obviously left in a hurry. Then, when Hannah’s home alone objects mysteriously move, there are shuffling noises overhead, doors creek, and pictures fall off the wall. You or I would run for the hills screaming, but not this family, they always somehow manage to put themselves in more danger from whatever horror lurks within. And you hope they don’t find out what it is too soon!. Name another creepy house film. Entries to Alex Gordon, Within competition by August 10.
