Thou­sands flock to World War Two themed week­end

EVENT Around 10,000 peo­ple flocked to the two­day Bas­ton Blitz at the week­end. Now in its fourth year, the event fea­tured 60 trade stalls, over 50 WW2 dis­play groups, dozens of vin­tage mil­i­tary and civil­ian ve­hi­cles and static air­craft dis­plays and hun­dreds of re-en­ac­tors dressed in WW2 mil­i­tary uni­forms or civil­ian cos­tume. High­lights of the show in­cluded large-scale au­then­tic bat­tle re-en­act­ments on both days that fea­tured a WW2 Ger­man tank for the first time, a recre­ated Ger­man pris­oner-of-war camp com­plete with watch tower and guards, plus fly­pasts by Bat­tle of Bri­tain Memo­rial Flight Hurricane and Spit­fire fighter planes.
