No goalposts, no game for new-look Netherton

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - SPORT -

New-look Netherton United are off and running in pursuit of their first Peterborough Premier Division title.

And manager Jon Harrison reckons the city side are bound to improve on their opening day 4-1 win over Stamford Lions at the Grange last weekend.

A hat-trick from new signing Erik Makate and a super strike from Mark Baines ensured Jack Travers’ reply for the Lions was of little consequence.

Harrison was impressed, especially as he was missing several players he expects to challenge for a first-team place.

“My biggest concern could well be keeping everyone happy,” Harrison stated. “But that job is a lot easier when the team is winning. This was a very good performance.”

Netherton’s chance to gain a second win was ruined by a postponement of a scheduled fixure at ICA Sports on Tuesday because of a lack of goalposts at the latter’s council-owned Ringwood venue!

Miscommunication between the club and the council has been blamed.

Moulton Harrox are the early-season leaders with three wins in three matches. Leverington and Sawtry have won their opening two matches.

Moulton host Leverington at Broad Lane next Tuesday (August 15).

Erik Makate.
