Rep XI beaten by the better team in the Isle of Man

-

The Peterborough & District Rep XI suffered a predictable 4-1 defeat away to the Isle of Man in the first round of the Inter-League Cup last weekend.

The city side were briefly on terms in the first half thanks to a fine finish from ICA’s Scott Spearink, but the hosts were comfortable winners in the end.

Most of the Premier Division fixtures were postponed last weekend because of the Rep XI fixture, but Sawtry moved up to sixth place after coming from behind with 10 men to beat Sutton Bridge United 2-1 at Greenfields.

Nathan Smith was the man to see red, but Brian Smith and Shane Cooke scored second-half goals to secure victory for Julian Spalding’s improving side.

Sawtry will do well to win this Saturday as they host in-form reigning champions Peterborough Sports Reserves who have moved smoothly into third place. Leaders Moulton Harrox host bottom club Langtoft United, secondplaced Stamford Lions are at Sutton Bridge, while Netherton United entertain Deeping Reserves.
