GENDER PAY GAP REVEALED AT CITY ORGANISATIONS
Women paid more at iconic Peterborough business
Men earn nearly 50 per cent more on average than women at some Peterborough firms, it has been revealed.
Firms across the country who employ at least 250 people had to reveal the gender pay gap between employees by April 4.
It was revealed Aspire Learning Trust, based in Whittlesey had the biggest pay gap in the area, with men earning 47.7 per cent more than women - meaning women earned 52p for every £1 for men.
Thomas Cook Airlines had a gap of 45.8 per cent, while Yours Clothing had a gap of 42 per cent.
It was a different story at one of Peterborough’s most iconic businesses, with women earning more than men at Perkins Engines, with a -6.4 per cent score. This means women earn £1.06 for every £1 men earn.
It was a similar story at Vivacity, who run many leisure facilities in Peterborough, who scored -2.8.
Along with businesses, a number of public bodies also revealed the gender pay gap.
Peterborough City Council had a score of 4.7 per cent, Cambridgeshire police had a score of 13.1 per cent, Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue scored 13.9 per cent and the East of England Ambulance Service had a pay gap of 3.4 per cent.
Peterborough Regional College had a gap of 14.1 per cent, while North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Peterborough City Hospital, had a score of 13.9 per cent.
Johnston Press, which publishes the Peterborough Telegraph, had a score of 7.5 per cent.
According to Office of National Statistics (ONS) figures, nationally the gender pay gap fell to 9.1 per cent in the UK last year. The year before, the number sat at 9.4 per cent.
Comparatively, in 1997, men earned 17.4 per cent more than women on average.
