COPs help Cambs to a second place finish
City of Peterborough swimmers were part of the Cambs team pipped at the post by Hertfordshire in an intercounty event in Norwich.
Amelia Monaghan won two events, the 200m open individual medley and the 15/16 years 100m breaststroke.
Other COPs winners were: Mia Leech 15/16 fly; Herbie Kinder 15/16 fly; Mollie Allen open 100m backstroke; Tom Wiggins open 100m breaststroke and Ella McGhie 13-14 year old 100m backstroke.
Other COPS members of the team were: Ruby Blakely, Harriet Salisbury, Brenna Howell, Kiara Kovac, Eve Wright, Kenzie Whyatt, Poppy Richardson, Stafford Hewitt White, Josh Martin, Connor Walker, Fabian Brudinicki, Herbie Kinder and Jamie Scholes.
Final result: 1 Herts 257pts, 2 Cambs 250, 3 Essex 248, 4 Suffolk 179, 5 Norfolk 155, 6 Beds 131.
Cambs and COPs coach Rebecca Barsby said: “Amelia Monaghan set the bar very high for our swimmers, but we managed to dominate the medley relays at the senior end. Our relay team of Eve, Amelia, Mia and Kenzie will be racing at the nationals soon and look good to medal there.
“Team spirit was high throughout.”
