Po­lice tackle drug deal­ing

A se­ries of po­lice op­er­a­tions tack­ling drug deal­ing in the city has been car­ried out.

Of­fi­cers raided sev­eral prop­er­ties, set up search op­er­a­tions at Peter­bor­ough Rail­way Sta­tion, and worked at HMP Peter­bor­ough with snif­fer dogs to pre­vent il­licit sub­stances get­ting into the jail.

The first op­er­a­tions took place early on Mon­day morn­ing, when of­fi­cers ex­e­cuted war­rants at prop­er­ties in­clud­ing at Mitchell Close, Fen­gate, Peter­bor­ough. Ad­dresses at Bar­bers Hill and Mel­lows Close were also raided.

A po­lice spokesman said: “A vul­ner­a­ble per­son was iden­ti­fied as oc­cu­pier of ad­dress, sus­pected to be cuck­ooed. Safe­guard­ing mea­sures have been put in place.

“Four peo­ple were ar­rested and dealt with at the lo­ca­tion for pos­ses­sion of a con­trolled sub­stance.”

‘Cuck­oo­ing’ is where drug deal­ers take over an ad­dress where vul­ner­a­ble peo­ple are liv­ing.

On Tues­day morn­ing, an op­er­a­tion took place at Peter­bor­ough Rail­way Sta­tion, where of­fi­cers from Cam­bridgeshire po­lice worked along­side a team from Bri­tish Trans­port Po­lice.

The team used me­tal de­tect­ing arches, pas­sive drugs dogs and be­havioural de­tec­tion of­fi­cers to stop deal­ers and users com­ing into the city.

A 19-year-old man from Hert­ford­shire was ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of be­ing con­cerned in the sup­ply of drugs. He has been re­leased with no fur­ther ac­tion.

On Wed­nes­day, about 200 leaflets were de­liv­ered to houses in Mor­ris Street, Buckle Street, Bed­ford Street, Ver­gette Street, Mitchell Close, Mel­lows Way and Fairchild Way.

Three men from Peter­bor­ough aged 18,19 and 41 were ar­rested. The 41-year-old was ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of pos­ses­sion with in­tent to sup­ply class A drugs. The younger two were ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of be­ing con­cerned in the sup­ply of class A drugs. They all re­main in po­lice cus­tody at the time of go­ing to press.
