Blessings for pets at special service

The Press and Journal (Aberdeen) - - NEWS -

Pets will be blessed by a minister at an Aberdeen church this weekend.

A special service is being held tomorrow at Queen’s Cross Church, in advance of the Feast of St Francis, which is celebrated every year on October 4.

Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals and the environment, and it is traditional for churches to hold ceremonies blessing animals to commemorate his work.

Reverend Scott Rennie said: “It’s an opportunity for people to bring their pets along for a blessing and to celebrate the role that they play in each of our lives.

“I’ve had a tarantula before, someone brought a goldfish in a bowl, and chinchillas are actually pretty common. It’s definitely not restricted to just cats and dogs.”

The service will be held at Queen’s Cross Church on Sunday, October 1, from 2.30pm.
