Drama as player air­lifted fol­low­ing in­jury

A rugby player is re­cov­er­ing af­ter be­ing air­lifted to hos­pi­tal with neck in­juries.

Ross Suther­land player Lee McLel­lan was 77 min­utes into the match against Mackie’s FP at the Red­cloak pitches in Stone­haven on Satur­day when he was hurt.

An air am­bu­lance from In­ver­ness was dis­patched and ar­rived at the scene at about 5.30pm, and flew the 38-year-old, from In­ver­gor­don, to Aberdeen Royal In­fir­mary.

A spokesman for the club said Mr McLel­lan had since been dis­charged from hos­pi­tal, and was re­cov­er­ing at home.

Stephan Walker said: “We kept him im­mo­bilised and wrapped up wait­ing for an am­bu­lance for an hour and 10 min­utes.
