Gunn still alive and kicking

League 2: Don’t you forget about me is attacker’s message to City manager

Elgin City forward Craig Gunn wants to make sure he does not become the club’s forgotten man.

Gunn has finished as City’s leading mscorer in each of the last three seasons but has found opportunities limited this season, making just nine starts and scoring eight goals.

The 29-year-old accepts the form of 24-goal attacker Shane Sutherland has made it difficult for him to win his place back in the side but, after coming off the bench to score in his side’s 4-1 win against Clyde last week, Gunn is eager to show he still has a role to play.

Ahead of today’s League 2 match a t Ber wick Rangers, Gunnsaid: “It was nice to get back into the side and get a goal which settled the game down as

“Everyone can see the forwards who have come in have been playing well”

Clyde were coming back into it. The games are coming thick and fast now and we are going to need the full squad.

“I’ve just got to come on andshowI canenhancethe side and take my chances.

“It’s frustrating sitting on the sidelines, but everyone can see the forwards who have come in have been playing well.

“Shane has probably been the best player in the league this season, so as a fellow Wick lad it’s been good to see him getting the recognition he deserves.”

City are 12 points adriftof leaders Forfar Athletic, but have two games in hand on the Loons, who they face at Borough Briggs on March 18. Gunn has not given up hope of catching them and added: “It’s that time of the season where form becomes most important, and whoever can put results together will be right up there. From January until now our form has been good. We just need to keep on the tails of Forfar because they will slip.

“We have a couple of games in hand over them, so if we get full points from them we won’t be too far away.”

Elgin inflicted a 6- 0 defeat on today ’s opponents when they last faced them at home in December, but Gunn expects a difficult encounter at Shielfield Park and said: “Berwick will be hurting from the last time we played them up in Elgin. It will be difficult going down there, although we seem to have a decent enough record at their place.

“It’s not going to be as easy a game as it was the last time we played them at home, but we are playing with confidence just now.”
