School open­ing de­layed

The open­ing of a new Aberdeen­shire school has been de­layed.

Hill­side School in Portlethen was due to wel­come pupils on March 27 but vi­tal safety and se­cu­rity checks have yet to be car­ried out on the build­ing.

It means classes will not start un­til af­ter the Easter hol­i­days.

Par­ents were sent a let­ter from Aberdeen­shire Coun­cil con­firm­ing the new school wouldn’t open as planned and the new pri­mary school and nurs­ery will in­stead open on Tues­day, April 18. Aberdeen­shire schools close for Easter hol­i­days on Fri­day, March 31, reopening on Tues­day, April 18. How­ever, the ex­ist­ing school will close on Thurs­day, March 30, to give staff a day to set up the new class­rooms.

The let­ter, from Craig Cle­ment the lo­cal author­ity’s head of re­sources and per­for­mance, said: “I ap­pre­ci­ate that fam­i­lies may not be able to make child­care ar­range­ments for the 31st and apol­o­gise for any in­con­ve­nience caused.”
