Independence offers zero future

The Press and Journal (Aberdeenshire) - - OPINION -

SIR, –After over 30 years associated with RAF Lossiemouth I am about to retire along with the Tornado and I enjoyed both the farewell flypast and your coverage of it. You correctly report the “booming" future for the base with more Typhoons and P8s coming. Perhaps you should also report that none of that would happen in an independent Scotland and that the base would have zero future. Perhaps the MP for the area should remember that fact when he is busy talking his own constituency out of hundreds of millions of pounds worth of investment.

Anyone who claims that the base could be kept open with a proportion of UK assets – one P8 and half a squadron of Typhoons – is only displaying his ignorance of how defence works. Mike Looseley Wittet Drive, Elgin
