Medals for he­roes as troops pre­pare mercy mis­sion

The re­main­ing 50mph sec­tions of the A944 and B9119 road in Aberdeen will be sub­ject to a 40mph speed limit from Mon­day. The re­duced limit was agreed at Aberdeen City Coun­cil’s Com­mu­ni­ties, Hous­ing and In­fra­struc­ture Com­mit­tee in Jan­uary. The change means the A944 and B9119 between Westhill and the 30mph limit on Lang Stra­cht and Skene Road will have a con­tin­u­ous 40mph speed limit.

Evening of mu­sic, verse

The an­nual “Meal an’ Ale” con­cert goes ahead in Cookney vil­lage hall on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 7 at 7.30pm with a var­ied pro­gramme of tra­di­tional mu­sic, song and verse.

Lo­cal broad­cast­ing band leader and ac­cor­dion­ist Ian Thom­son will be ac­com­pa­nied by fid­dler Wil­lie John­ston. The event, or­gan­ised by the Aberdeen branch of the Tra­di­tional Mu­sic and Song As­so­ci­a­tion of Scot­land, is usu­ally a sell­out and tick­ets can be booked on 01569 731236.

School event for farewells

Mar­ket Place School in In­verurie is hold­ing a farewell event to­day for any­one wish­ing to have a fi­nal tour around the school be­fore it closes and pupils move to their new school next month.

All ex-staff and pupils are wel­come to come along between 10am and 2pm to browse old pho­to­graphs and share school mem­o­ries.

Bowl­ing club sea­son starts

Old­mel­drum In­door Bowl­ing Club starts its new sea­son to­mor­row at 7pm in the Old­mel­drum Royal Bri­tish Le­gion. New mem­bers wel­come.

Cof­fee and cake at school

Aber­lour Pri­mary School is host­ing a cof­fee morn­ing in the school hall on Satur­day, Septem­ber 30 from 10am to noon with a raffle, lucky dip, bot­tle stall and cake and candy for sale.
