Death of Exorcist author aged 89
Writer Stephen King has led tributes to the author of The Exorcist, William Peter Blatty, who has died aged 89.
Blatty’s widow, Julie, said he died in hospital in the US state of Maryland from a form of blood cancer called multip l e my el o m a on Thursday. Horror author King wrote onTwitter: “RIP William Peter Blatty, who wrote the great horror novel of our time. So long, Old Bill.”
Film critic Mark Kermode, a prominent Exorcist fan, posted a picture of Blatty along with the final line from the novel: “In forgetting, they were trying to remember.”
Blatty was a former Jesuit school valedictorian.
