Rethink needed on taxi fares increase
SIR, – I write concerning the proposed fare increase for taxis in Highland Region.
I have been a taxi driver and operator in Lochaber for over 20 years and have seen many fare increases over the years but this latest proposal of a 28% increase is totally unacceptable. It may suit the drivers in the city but it will be the death knell for those in the more rural areas. I would also point out that many operators do school contracts. The council renewed these contracts for five years before Christmas with a starting date as January 2017. Less than a month later the same council puts an increase of 28% on fares and these people are unable to benefit. Could I
