Driver caused biker’s injuries

-

A 24- year- old man whose careless driving caused a biker to come off her vehicle has been fined £250 and given three penalty points.

Stoney Hague, of Colonial Place in Scatness, Virkie, admitted committing the offence on October 2 last year when he appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court yesterday.

The incident took place on a single track road in Virkie. Hague emerged onto the road in the face of the motorcycle, forcing the driver to take evasive action, resulting in her being thrown from the vehicle and injured.

“He accepts his driving fell below standard”

Mackenzie said Hague had not looked properly when coming out of the junction. The woman was wearing protective clothing and sustained only minor injuries, but the motorbike was written off.

Defence agent Gregor Kelly said the injuries were “thankfully minimal” and that his client accepted his driving “fell below the standard expected”.

Meanwhile, Lawrence Halcrow, 22, of Kirkpark, Scalloway, was fined £300 after admitting driving without due care or attention at excessive speed on September 15 at Burnbank Road, Hill Grind and Lerwick’s Hoofields.
