Injury blow for Bairns as Taiwo suffers nasty shin injury

-

Falkirk midfielder Tom Taiwo is a doubt for Saturday’s key match against Dundee United after suffering a nasty gash in his shin in training.

The former Hibs player, who began his career with Chelsea, was caught by a team-mate’s stud in an accident that left him nursing a cut that almost exposed his bone.

The 27-year-old has had the wound stitched but looks set to add to the Bairns’ injury woes as they continue to seek their first league win of the campaign.

Manager Peter Houston said: “Tom looks like he’s going to struggle for Saturday, which is a blow.

“He got injured in training on Monday and has four stitches in his shin, so he’s a doubt.

“It was almost down to the bone on his shin, it was a nasty one.

“Knowing Tom he’ll want to get involved because that’s his style, but we’ve got to see what he’s like later in the week.”

Versatile defender Lewis Kidd is facing an extended period on the sidelines after being told he needs an operation to cure his ongoing injury troubles.

The former Celtic and Queen of the South player has not played this season and has now been diagnosed with Gilmore’s Groin, which requires surgery.

Houston added: “Lewis is going in for an operation on Thursday.

“It’s a double-sided groin operation, so he’ll be out for quite a while in my opinion.

“The surgeon says he could be training in three weeks but I’m not so sure.

“I hope he is, for the player’s sake, because he’s been very frustrated having to stay on the sidelines for quite a while.

“But I’m glad we’ve got to the bottom of what was wrong.” lRa■gers have confirmed they will travel to Canada to play a friendly against Benfica during next month’s international break.

The Light Blues have confirmed the Eusebio Cup match will take place at the 24,000 seater Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario on Friday, October 6.

The trophy which is in honour of the attacker who scored 317 goals in 307 games and the Light Blues will join a list of European clubs such as Real Madrid, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Arsenal who have previously taken part.
