SNP MP’s £7.5k raise for step­son

Ian Black­ford has de­cided to give his step­son a sub­stan­tial pay rise will raise ques­tions. With laws com­ing in that will mean MPs can no longer hire fam­ily mem­bers, peo­ple will won­der if he is at­tempt­ing to line the pock­ets of his rel­a­tive while he still can.”

A Labour source said: “It’s im­por­tant there is full trans­parency around the em­ploy­ment of rel­a­tives. But this pales com­pared to the £1,500 for­mer in­vest­ment banker Ian Black­ford re­ceives for one day’s work in his sec­ond job.”

A date has not yet been set for the ban on new em­ploy­ees who are rel­a­tives to be ex­tended to ex­ist­ing em­ploy­ees.

The SNP did not re­spond to a re­quest for com­ment.
