Keen prices for Suf­folks

Suf­folks sold to a top of 26,000gn at the breed’s Scot­tish area sale in Stir­ling yes­ter­day.

Lead­ing the charge was a De­cem­ber-2016 born ram lamb from Iain and Ju­dith Barbour’s Sol­way­bank flock at Rose­field Farm, An­nan, Dum­fries. By Lake­view Har­bin­ger, and out of a dam by Rhaedar Rasta­fari, he is a full brother to the 13,000gn Sol­way­bank Brave­heart. He sold to P.W. Poole, Bea­cons­field Farm, Bat­tle­field, Shrews­bury.

Next best at 24,000gn was a Jan­uary-born en­try from Jim Innes’ Strath­bo­gie flock at Dun­scroft, Huntly.

By Strath­bo­gie A Kind of Magic, he is out of a dam by Strath­beg Stan The Man which bred the 20,000gn Strath­bo­gie Jack­pot and the 16,000gn Strath­bo­gie Sir­ius. He sold in a two-way split to R.H. Goldie of Harper­croft, Dun­don­ald, and G.A. Mackie, of Drim­mie Farm, by For­far.

There­after two lots sold for 12,000gn. The first was a De­cem­ber-2016 born Irongray Black Magic son from Messrs W.H. Sin­net and Sons at Stock­ton Court, Worces­ter. Out of a dam by Rhaeadr Mad Man, he sold to G. Mid­dle­ston, Rig­ghead, Shaw­head, Dum­fries.

The other was a Jan­uary­born en­try from Jimmy Dou­glas’ Cair­ness flock at Wood­head of Cair­ness, Fraser­burgh. By the 6,500gn Ca­vana­grove Cat­a­lyst, he is out of a dam by Muiresk King of Di­a­monds which bred the 12,000gn Cair­ness Di­a­mond Geezer. He sold to Messrs Wil­son. Mr Dou­glas also achieved 8,000gn for an­other Jan­uary-born Ca­vana­grove Cat­a­lyst son. Out of a dam which is a full sis­ter to the 17,000gn Cair­ness Di­a­mond Geezer, he sold to M.J. Cor­nish, Parkridge, Buck­fastleigh, Devon.

Other lead­ing prices in­cluded 10,000gn for a De­cem­ber-2016 born en­try from the Delves fam­ily’s Bridgeview flock in Powys, Wales. By Lake­view Har­bin­ger and out of a ewe by Sol­way­bank Sky­fall, he sold to Suf­folk Do Pin­heiro, Por­tu­gal.

A De­cem­ber-2016 born en­try from Mark Pri­est­ley’s Lime­stone flock in County Down, sold in a three waysplit for 9,500gn. By Strath­bo­gie a Kind of Magic he sold to: R.H. Black, New­ton of Col­lessie, Ladybank, Fife; John Lathangie and Son, Pye­ston, Mark­inch, Fife; and Ge­orge and Melvin Stu­art, Mill­town of Bir­ness, El­lon.

Mean­while, a Jan­uary­born son of Rook­ery Rodeo sold for 8,000gn.

Put for­ward by G.C. Bea­com, Lake­view Farm, Co Fer­managh, he is out of a dam by Strath­bo­gie Jack­pot and stood re­serve over­all at the North­ern Irish cham­pi­onships. He sold to D. Tay­lor, 34 Cashel Road, Col­eraine.

The male cham­pion from the pre-sale show, as judged by John Sin­nett of Stock­ton Court, Stock­ton-on-Teme, Worces­ter, sold for 1,800gn.

Put for­ward from John Gibb’s Cairn­ton flock at Tech­muiry, Fraser­burgh, this De­cem­ber-2016 son of Cair­ness Sir Wil­liam is out of a dam by Cairn­ton The Cracker. He sold jointly to J.H. Christie and Son, West Carse Farm, Stir­ling, and W. and H. Flem­ing, Hall­hill, Car­luke.
